Clinics & Services

Chronic Disease Management 

bpcheckSpecific clinics are run by our highly trained Nurse Practitioner or Practice Nurses. If you have heart disease, diabetes, blood pressure, asthma, COPD, or epilepsy you will be invited to see one of our Nurses for the monitoring of your condition. 

Cervical Smears 

These are performed mainly by our Practice Nurses. Ladies aged 25-49 will be invited at least every three years. Ladies aged 50-64 will be invited at least every five years. 

Family Planning 

A comprehensive family planning service is available. This includes prescriptions for the contraceptive pill and the fitting of coils and caps. 

Emergency contraception (the 'morning after pill') is also available at all times. Although called the 'morning after pill' it works up to 72 hours after intercourse. Free condoms are also available at the surgery. Please see the Practice Nurse. 

Antenatal/Postnatal Care 

mother_baby_consultOur Community Midwives hold clinics by appointment at both surgeries. The Midwife can be contacted at the antenatal clinic every Tuesday afternoon at Spondon and every Wednesday morning at Chaddesden. They also run an emergency on-call system (please ask them for details).

There is very close co-operation between the Doctors and the Midwives providing continuity of care throughout the pregnancy and after delivery.

Parentcraft classes which help to prepare parents for the birth of their new baby are provided by our Health Visitors and Midwives. Please ask for details.

Teenage Health

The surgery is able to offer all health services to teenagers with full confidentiality.

Minor Surgery

All Doctors are accredited to perform minor operations, such as injecting joints and excision of cysts, etc. A separate appointment is given after consultation with the Doctor for the procedure to be carried out.

Immunisations

Children
The Practice offers all routine immunisations to children and adults as recommended by the Government. If you have any concerns about your child's immunisation, please discuss them with the Health Visitor, Practice Nurse or Doctor.

Adults
Adults do not usually need any routine boosters if they have had all of their childhood immunisations, but a tetanus booster may be necessary if a tetanus prone wound is sustained, e.g. a dog bite, a cut on a rusty nail or a wound that occurred in the garden.

Foreign Travel
Immunisations including tetanus and polio may be needed and can take two months to complete. Please see the Practice Nurse well in advance of your proposed travel for the appropriate advice along with your full itinerary.

Non-NHS Examination and Services

stethoscope2Non-NHS examinations for special purposes, eg HGV medicals, fitness to drive, fitness for sporting activity, pre-employment, adoption medicals, insurance medicals, etc have to be arranged in advance.

Fees are charged for these examinations and services, as they are not part of the Doctors' NHS work. Details may be obtained from reception where a list of fees are held.

Citizens Advice Bureau

A representative form the Citizens Advice Bureau is available for appointments every Friday afternoon at our Chaddesden Surgery. Please telephone reception to make an appointment.

Practice Counsellor

We now have the services of an in-house counsellor; referrals are made via your GP.
